When the King of Egypt visited John Rylands Library

Text taken from http://gatewaytothekoran.wordpress.com/

Whilst attending the 7th annual TIMA conference in Cambridge, where James presented a paper on the digitisation project. While there, a fellow attendee mentioned an article from the Manchester Guardian they had uncovered from 1927, regarding the visit of the then King of Egypt to the Rylands Library. The Rylands holds the complete Guardian Archive, so it wasn’t long before we uncovered the article again! (The images are quite large so the text can be read)

King of Egypt comes to the John Rylands Library

Recently Carol and James attended the 7th annual TIMA conference in Cambridge, where James presented a paper on the digitisation project.

Fay Compton

I have two postcards which I bought at an antiques/craft fair.  I really found them interesting and I have researched one of the postcards as the other doesn’t have a name on it.  The post card I researched is Fay Compton who is an actress on stage and in films.  The following video is a short film starring Fay Compton called Double Cross.

Taking Inspiration from Anna Barriball

I took inspiration from the artist Anna Barriball who has created interesting images.  She has used ink and bubble mixture to create bubbles and patterns with the ink to alter the original image of a black and white photograph.   I have used this technique by creating a similar pattern and bubbles on random images I found on the internet.  I printed these images out and used ink and a bubble mixture consisting of washing-up liquid and water.  The resulting images I have created are interesting and I am pleased with the result.

I found this website whilst doing some research.

I think that these illustrations are very sincere to the owner and convey a lasting message – stunning and beautiful.

The general moral, intellectual, and climate of an era; Zeitgeist is German for “time spirit.”  For example, the Zeitgeist of England in the Victorian period included a belief in industrial progress, and the Zeitgeist of the 1980s in the United States was a belief in the power of money and the many ways in which to spend it.

Helen Keller

I have found a video which gives a very good account of the life of Helen Keller.
